“Create in me a clean heart, O God” Psalm 51 should need no introduction. It is widely known as one of the most powerful and beautiful Psalms. Its author, David, is devastated in his sin and yet determined towards his God. It is a Psalm that details the path of David’s confession, his cleansing and then his conviction to still be used of God. It is a Psalm that details a change of heart—a wonderful and God-glorifying change of But this Psalm not only applies to David, it of course applies to all. It reveals a truth that we cannot ignore or disregard because all of life is really—a battle for the heart.

David was in a battle for his heart and he won by the grace, mercy and love of God. We too find ourselves in the same battle for the heart, everyday. Therefore, everyday we need a change of heart regardless of how far we think we have come.
